Brighton’s Graphic War is a full colour, World War One-themed graphic novel, depicting the people and history of Brighton & Hove from 1900 to 1920.
Industry professionals Tim Pilcher and Paul Collicutt mentored 15 new talented young writers and artists from the city, of whom I was one, to create the book.
Brighton’s Graphic War shows the huge social and military changes that took place in the period, and details how the first modern war of the 20th Century impacted upon the people of a then-small Sussex town.
The cover design was by Children’s Laureate Chris Riddell, with the Foreword and font by Comic’s Laureate Dave Gibbons.
I collaborated with writer Matt Austin to create a story about three soldier amputees recovering in the Royal Pavilion Hospital. The story, called An Arm and Two Legs, is the first to feature in the novel.
